D'shara Strange scored a game-high 21 points as Northern Colorado defeated North Dakota State 75-61 in a non-conference women's basketball game played Sunday, Dec. 2, at Butler-Hancock Pavillion.
North Dakota State (3-5) is scheduled to host Drake University (2-4) at 7 p.m.
Northern Colorado (2-4) won only its third game in the series with the Bison. The Bears led wire-to-wire in the meeting of two former North Central Conference team.
Katie Birkel scored 17 of her team-high 19 points in the first half, but UNC built a 42-36 halftime lead.
Northern Colorado built a 57-44 lead on a Victoria Timm layup with 9:50 left in the second half.
However, Jamie Van Kirk and Miki Stephenson each hit three-points on a 10-point run. The Bison closed the deficit to 57-54 with 6:33 left on a Van Kirk three-pointer.
Hannah Thornton and Strange helped to stall the rally for Northern Colorado and the Bears widened the margin.
Strange led a group of four players in double-figures for UNC. Timm scored 16 points and handed out six assists, while Lauren Oosdyke netted 13 and Thornton added 11. The Bears shot 50.9 percent from the field and held a 40-27 rebound advantage.
Van Kirk scored 15 points for NDSU, while Dani DeGagne added 12. Van Kirk matched a career-high with three-pointers, while Stephenson knocked down her first collegiate trey. The Bison shot 40.7 percent from the field
