Cookies for Rape and Abuse Crisis Center

Posted: Updated:

Every year almost one million children are abused and neglected. But there are services like the Rape and Abuse Crisis Center, that are always trying to find new ways to help. And now they've found a tasty new way to raise money so they can continue to help the community.

Amanda McKinnon says, "Together with everything, 6300 cookies were baked and that was over a four hour time frame, so I know everyone was really tired last night." Sixty three hundred cookies baked in many flavors... "Traditional Christmas cookies, you know the sprits, the sugar cookies, the ginger, really just putting all that holiday goodness together." McKinnon continues.

Sixty three hundred cookies baked for a cause, "We help with domestic, sexual violence, and that can be man, woman, kid. I mean we help people of all ages in the community." McKinnon says.

Cookie trays were pre-sold to help raise money for the Rape and Abuse Crisis Center. Thanks to Breadsmith, the bakery and supplies were donated to help the center so they can continue to help the community. Breadsmith owner Rob Roberts says, "Its our town too, I'm the father of two girls, if my girls ever need a service like this, I want it to be here."

Every two minutes, someone is sexually assaulted in the United States, and less than half of those get reported. And these cookies go towards a service that helps anyone who is feeling the pain of any type of abuse. "When someone is abused at home it can affect their work life, social life, it affects everything, it doesn't matter what type of abuse it is." McKinnon says.

So by selling peoples favorite holiday treats like Roberts favorite, "Russian Tea Cakes." or McKinnon's, "I would have to go with the ginger bars, they are amazing." It can continue to provided helpful services for the community.

The Rape and Abuse Crisis Center is having a Fashion Sow and Silent Auction in the end of January, for another unique way to raise money.
