Lamoure Police Chief Hurt During High Speed Chase

Posted: Updated:

The Lamoure Chief of Police is recovering after being dragged through a ditch and a farm yard Wednesday morning after a high speed chase. 30-year-old Josh McCleary of Dickey has multiple charges including DUI, fleeing police and drug charges, among others.

Chief Ian Mattice says at about 7:00 AM Wednesday, he got multiple calls of a car driving recklessly. A high speed chase started. A sheriff's department squad car tried blocking McCleary's way, but he rammed his car into it. Chief Mattice then tried getting him out of the car, but McCleary backed up with his drivers door opened and dragged him through a ditch. He was able to get back in his car and chase him to a farm yard where McCleary got caught in a fence. Chief Mattice tried tazing him inside his car, but McMleary backed up with his door open and again dragged Mattice! Eventually, McCleary was caught after running in a barn and was cornered. Chief Mattice says he's fine, just a hurt knee and bumps and bruises. McCleary's car and a Lamoure Sheriff's Department car are totalled.
