Posted: Updated:

A Crookston man has been sentence to 20-years in prison.

24-year old Ricardo Mello assaulted a police officer in September of 2011 and stole his cruiser. Then, Mello crashed into another vehicle a short time later and killed 78-year old Eddie Briggs.

Mellow entered a Norgaard Plea. It's used when defendants want to plead guilty, but can't remember facts of the case due to intoxication.

Mellow will spend a minimum of 12-years behind bars.
