Authorities Investigating Two Detroit Lakes Burglaries

Posted: Updated:

The Detroit Lakes Police Department is investigating two separate burglaries reported on Tuesday. Chief of Police Tim Eggebraaten says the burglaries were unrelated and in both instances people were home during the invasion.

The first happened around 1:15 p.m. at the Pine to Palm Motel in Detroit Lakes. The callers said two people forced their way into the motel room. One of the people involved ran from the hotel, but all three people were taken into custody shortly after authorities arrived.

Arrested:

  • Michael Dwayne Croud, 30, of Ponsford, Minnesota
  • Heather Marie Wichern, 20, of Frazee, Minnesota
  • Nathaniel Lee Simon, 20, of Callaway, Minnesota

A female victim in the motel room was assaulted and some items were taken from her room during the assault. She declined medical treatment, but suffered some scrapes and bruises.

The second incident was reported at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday in the 800 block of Shorewood Drive in Detroit Lakes. A juvenile male, who didn't know the homeowner, came into the house and took a duffel bag that he had filled with items from the garage.

The homeowner confronted the juvenile and he left without confrontation. She followed him and told Detroit Lakes police officers where she had last seen him. A 16-year-old male was taken to the Becker County Jail and later transported to the West Central Juvenile Center in Moorhead. The Becker County Attorney's Office is reviewing the case for potential charges against the juvenile.
