West Fargo Teen To Play In Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade

Posted: Updated:

In just a few hours, a West Fargo teen will be gaining a Thanksgiving Day memory that will last a life time. West Fargo High School senior, Erika Borslien, will be playing clarinet in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

From the days of just playing a few easy notes...

Erika Borslien of West Fargo says, "I always thought about doing something big with music."

"She's never wanted to give up on the clarinet," says Erika's dad Tony Borslien.

To the days of intense practice, Erika Borslien loves every second she gets to play.

Erika's mom Rose Borslien, says, "I think she sleeps, eats and breaths music 24 hours a day!"

"If I'm not sleeping or eating, I'm probably doing something music related," says Erika.

And now, Erika gets to play on one of the biggest stages possible, and is the only student from North Dakota to play in this year's Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Erika says, "I didn't believe it until my first rehearsal. I was like "oh my gosh! I'm actually here!" Like, it didn't feel real until I actually got here."

Rose says, "Very proud. Excited to see her."

Proud parents and family has stayed back in West Fargo to watch Erika play the top seat in the clarinet line during the parade. She says it took a lot of hours, practice and hard work to get there, but that was just the beginning. While in New York, she's practiced nine hours a day for the past week! But she say all the work is worth it.

Tony says, "It is really exciting. It is a memory she's going to have for her life, I think."

"I can't even put it to worse. It's such an amazing experience," says Erika.

Erika says she'll be on the end of a row, so you'll have a good chance at catching a glimpse of her. You can catch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade on KVLY from 9 AM to noon.
