Quick thinking and fast feet may have likely saved a woman's life during last night's Holiday Lights Parade in downtown Fargo.

A woman who was part of one of the parade entries collapsed as she walked near 5th Avenue and Broadway, suffering an apparent heart attack.

As a call went out for medical help, officer Shawn Gamradt realized with streets jammed with parade traffic, it would be difficult to get an ambulance to the scene fast, so Gamradt dashed several blocks to the Mat Bus depot where he grabbed a portable defribulator, ran back to the parade, and used the equipment on the fallen woman.

A.about the same time, a nurse from the crowd emerged and performed CPR. Police tell us the woman was resuscitated and taken to Sanford. Her condition is not known, and the nurse who stepped in disappeared into the crowd.

Police don't know who she was.
