Firefighters Discourage Use of Turkey Fryers Tomorrow

Posted: Updated:

It's one of the tastiest ways to enjoy your turkey, however it's also the most dangerous. That's why the Fargo Department is discouraging the use of turkey fryers tomorrow.

The Fargo Fire Department says In previous years, there have been personal injuries and significant home damage caused from the use of turkey fryers in the City of Fargo.

They also add that if you so choose to use a propane fueled turkey fryer, that you follow all manufacturer guidelines and cooking instructions when using them.

Fryers combine several elements that can make for extremely hazardous situations. The most common mistakes that lead to disaster are the following:

  • Over Heating of Oil, oil should only be 350-400 degrees
  • Frying of a frozen turkey, it should be completely thawed
  • Use of a fryer on a deck or in a garage, it should be on a flat non-combustible surface outdoors
  • Having a fryer to close to a structure, your fryer should be at least 15 ft. away from all structures
  • Over filling your fryer with oil, make sure you measure out the correct amount
