A man accused of sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl in daylight outside an African market in Fargo has been sentenced to serve two years in prison.

Twenty-6-year-old Bashir Noor was accused of assaulting the girl in an alley outside the Somali Business Center in June. He pleaded guilty in September to felony corruption of a minor.

He initially had been charged with gross sexual imposition but prosecutors decided it would be difficult to prove that Noor forced himself on the girl. Noor said the girl looked older and had consented.

Noor was given credit for about six months he already has spent behind bars. He will be on probation for five years following his prison term.
