Closing Arguments Today in Norberg Trial

Posted: Updated:

A Fargo surgeon will not take the witness stand in his own defense. Lawyers for Dr. Jon Norberg rested their case Monday.

Norberg is accused of drugging and sexually assaulting his wife, Alonna Norberg. Jon Norberg is charged with gross sexual imposition and reckless endangerment.

Authorities say he injected Alonna with an anesthetic and had sex with her against her will.

Defense attorneys say Alonna made up the allegations to use in a divorce and child custody case.

Late this afternoon prosecution brought forward a clinical psychologist to rebuke some of the diagnoses the Defense's psychiatrist gave on the stand Monday.

All day a Fargo psychiatrist testified about Alonna Norberg's medical conditions saying she may have faked most of them.

Dr. Harjinder Virdee said some things didn't match between what Alonna told her in an interview and what was in her medical records.

She said Alonna suffers from several psychiatric conditions, including a couple that caused her to believe she was physically ill and caused her to make up new symptoms as she saw multiple doctors.

Virdee says Alonna has had hundreds of medical tests that have mostly come back negative.

Virdee says, "And yet people were convinced something's wrong, and they're not just finding it because she is very bright. She's very intelligent, and she's a physician. She has a specialized knowledge of medicine."

Virdee says at times Alonna was on as many as 50 medications.

The Prosecution will call one or two quick witnesses Tuesday morning. From there it will go to closing arguments.

The judge expects the case to go to the Jury late Tuesday afternoon.
