Being Prepared With a Winter Survival Kit

Posted: Updated:

It may not feel like it now, but winter will soon be here and if you don't have a survival kit now is the time to get one.

Sgt. Jesse Grabow, with the Minnesota State Patrol, reminds you should always be prepared because you never know when you may need a survival kit.

"They never think it's going to happen to them but it's better to be prepared to plan ahead and have it, because it's better to have it and never need it than not have it and need it."

Grabow, also adds you should take weather warning's and no travel advisory's seriously to avoid dangerous conditions in the first place.

You can buy or make your own survival kit, even customizing it for your needs. A good survival kit should contain the following.

  • Food/Snacks
  • Blanket
  • Extra hats and gloves
  • Flashlight
  • Weather Radio
  • First aid kit
  • Drinking water
