Pride of Dakota Show

Posted: Updated:

You might find yourself in the giving mood this holiday season... But where can you find a gift that's all together good for your loved ones, the environment, and the local economy?

North Dakotans may not be known for setting the trends.

Katie Pinke with the North Dakota Ag Department says, "We've been doing it since before it was a trend."

But that might be because when you start off by doing it right, the trends seem to start following you.

"The quality... this is not a craft show," says Pinke.

Local shoppers got in big on the locavore craze... At this year's Fargo holiday showcase for Pride of Dakota.

"Sun Butter products, that's out of West Fargo," says Pinke.

The Ag Department program gives you face time with North Dakota growers, who can then respond faster to demands for healthy eating and sustainable ag.

"At our school, we don't use peanut products so it's a product we can use at that school," says Pinke.

And whether it's the global gluten-free items.

"We have Miller family farms from Denhof, North Dakota small, small town. they mill them on their farm, they're world famous now," says Pinke.

Or the tiniest boutique bakery, chances are -- it's right here, in your backyard.

If you go, there's a $2 admission fee. But you can get a dollar off if you bring a reusable bag. The show runs Sunday from 11 to 4. And if you missed it, there's another one in Bismarck, coming up.
