NDSU Bison Football: Behind Every Great Man is a Great Woman

Posted: Updated:

The NDSU Bison football team is in first place in the conference as they play their last regular season game on the road Saturday.

There is a lot of talent on this year's team, but Coach Craig Bohl is also getting a lot of credit.

But, remember this: "Behind every great man is s great woman".

Valley News Team's Lisa Budeau got to spend a little one-on-one time with the coach's number one fan.

Leia Bohl/Coach Bohl's Wife: "When the video board countdown gets to 3, 2 and then he comes out of the helmet. It's exciting."

The Fargodome erupts when Coach Bohl hits the field. He has a loyal following, but it's clear who his number one fan is.  Leia and Craig got married two and a half years ago.

Leia: "He's sweet, but I know from July 1st to the first Wednesday in February... Football is first."

Leia had never been to a bison game before she met the coach, but now she never misses a game. And, now she plays several different roles.

Leia: "I am a fan during the game, wife right after the game and cheerleader from Sunday morning to Saturday morning."

The coach's wife doesn't sit in the VIP area ans she says that surprises a lot of people.

Leia: "They are pretty high up. It's awesome. You can see everything."

And you better believe... she can hear everything too.

Leia: "Being up in the stands... Everybody knows a better play, thought or plan."

That's why she never offers advice to her her husband, but instead calls herself "a great listener."

Coach Bohl keeps his game face on until the end of the game. And, then... there's only one face he wants to see.

Leia is first in line down on the field after the game is over.

Leia: "You see how hard the coaches and players work all week. Whether it's a win or a loss... At the end of the game you want to go down and give those kisses, high 5s and praise... Because these guys work so hard."

It's that post game kiss... That seals her place on the roster... As the coach's favorite fan.
