Lakers Tap D'Antoni

Posted: Updated:

As soon as Mike Brown was fired as Lakers head coach last Friday, the first name that was brought up as a potential replacement was that of UND legend and Williston, North Dakota, native Phil Jackson. But the Lakers went in another direction today.

The Lakers called Jackson today to tell him the team was going with Mike D'Antoni, who'll get a three-year deal worth $12 million. D'Antoni spent five seasons coaching Lakers point guard Steve Nash in Phoenix where Nash won two MVP awards. D'Antoni then coached New York for the past four seasons, resigning last March.
