Alleged Victim on Stand in Norberg Rape Trial

Posted: Updated:

The wife of a Fargo doctor took the stand against him in court today, as prosecutors try to prove he drugged and raped her.

Dr. Jon Norberg, who's a surgeon, is also charged with reckless endangerment for dosing her with the powerful anesthetic, Propofol, the same drug that killed Michael Jackson.

Dr. Alonna Norberg, a pediatrician, was very composed on the stand all day today, even under cross-examination.

She explained that there there are gaps in her memory, due to the sedative Propofol. But she says she's confident in her brief memory of waking up while being sexually assaulted by her husband while she was drugged. She told the court she was scared of her husband and knew her report would get him in a lot of trouble.

She did not do a rape kit, thinking because she was married, it wouldn't help.

But she did leave with their children to her sister's home in Minot - and there, she gave a urine sample.

"I figured if John found out that I knew what he had done with the Diprivan he could get angry and dangerous, and I just needed to get far enough away so I could think," said Dr. Alonna Norberg.

The defense spent their time on cross-examination establishing her medical expertise, especially with child rape victims.

They've suggested she consented to both the drug use and sex, and that she's setting her husband up on rape charges as part of a nasty divorce.
