Full Shelters Offer Discount Cat Adoptions

Posted: Updated:

Local animal shelters are asking for your help.

They say a sudden increase in cats at local pounds has them looking for adopters to help save the felines' lives.

Cats of all colors and sizes fill every single available cage at the Fargo Moorhead humane society, and shelter manager Heather Clyde says it's all because of an recent influx of the four-legged felines being dropped off at the pound.

Clyde says that was in just one week, "over thirty cats were dispersed between us and Cats Cradle." Normally there may not even be a dozen.

The shelters try to rescue as many cats as they can, but while at full capacity, there's not much more they can do, and so they are asking for your help.

Because there are always more cats coming in, it is crucial that they be moved out of the pound quickly. Making room for these new cats necessitates putting others to sleep, and with the present level of overcrowding, a cat must be put down after only 3-5 days of being at the pound.

That's why it's so important if you know someone that's looking to adopt -- When the shelter has empty cages, they can rescue even more cats.

The humane society is holding a special to help with the cat situation. Until tomorrow (11/10) at 6:00 PM, you can get $40 off a cat adoption.

Cats Cradle will also be open tomorrow, and they say they will try to accommodate you as much as they can with a cat adoption.
