3 People Pull Grand Forks Woman from Pond After Crash

Posted: Updated:

Grand Forks police are looking into whether a medical condition may have caused a woman to crash her car into a pond Thursday morning. They say a 30-year-old woman was driving near Choice Fitness Center in Grand Forks when it happened.

The woman was driving south on 11th Street when she hit a light pole near 39th Avenue. The car kept going, she hit a street sign, and three blocks later her car drove into a pond.

Nancy Yoshida, Betsy Henler and Russell Van Dyken, who were inside the fitness center, heard the crash and ran to the pond and jumped into the water.  Rene Saucedo went to the vehicle and used a rock to break a rear window.  Yoshida, Henler,  Van Dyken and Saucedo were then able to pull the driver from the vehicle and to the shore.

They used blankets to keep the woman warm until emergency crews got there. She was taken to Altru, and police are looking into whether she had any medical complications while driving that could have caused the crash.
