(D) Ben Lien Wins MN House Seat

Posted: Updated:

Democratic candidate Ben Lien won the vacant seat left by (R) Morrie Lanning in Minnesota's District 4 "A" election Tuesday night.

It was a close race with 14 of 16 precincts counted as of midnight, Lien received 54 percent of the vote while his opponent Travis Reimche only got 46 percent. For Minnesota democrats this is big news coming off of Lanning's long run as a Representative of the Minnesota State House, and also the former Mayor of Moorhead. Lien knows he has some big shoes to fill but says some new ideas and some new faces in the house could lead to some real change.

"We need to take care of our communities and that's about our local businesses and I know they've been slipping and also we need to make sure we continue the property tax relief this state has been proud of. To make sure folks in greater Minnesota aren't shouldering the burden of the budget so much." Lien explained Tuesday night after his big win.

Lien says some of his first acts in his new role will be to get border city programs back into the budget. He would also like to reinstate the homestead credit.
