Polls Open Around the Valley on Election Day 2012

Polls around North Dakota and Minnesota opened at 7:00 Tuesday morning and at many locations people were waiting in line before then.

With a hotly contested US Senate race, several tight congressional elections, a Presidential election and a series of controversial issues on the ballot turned is likely to be high.

Election officials say if you want to avoid the crowds, your best bet is to vote mid-morning or mid-day.  Peak hours are usually before work, around lunch time and after work.

Polls in Minnesota close at 8:00 PM.  Poll closing times in North Dakota vary by county but most are 7:00 or 8:00 PM.
