Red Cross Volunteers Help Hurricane Victims

Posted: Updated:

The East Coast is ramping up emergency preparations, and locals are being told to prepare for the worst. Because of the massive storm heading for the coast, locals of our own are on their way to help.

Hurricane Sandy is expected to hit late Monday, and today, five highly trained American Red Cross volunteers left for New Jersey. They'll spend the next two weeks there helping people that are displaced by the hurricane. These volunteers took on a big and selfless task. They had to jump on a plane within just 12 hours of receiving the call.

Randy Johnson with the Red Cross says, "They're called up to do mass care and mass feeding and sheltering for the people who are going to be effected by the hurricane so as it sits right now there are shelters being set up. Teams coming from all over the country headed to the region and preparing for the worst."

The five people that form the Minn-kota regional team for the Red Cross are from Fargo, Minot and Dickinson.
