Candidates Take Shot at Your Vote -- and Each Other

Posted: Updated:

Rick Berg and Heidi Heitkamp took one last shot at getting your vote last night -- while taking another shot at each other.

Both candidates hit familiar notes as they squared off in their final debate in Bismarck before the election next month.

There were equal accusations on both sides of being stooges for each other's political party.

Heitkamp blamed Berg for being part of Washington gridlock.

"When Rick Berg got to Washington he voted one hundred percent of the time with his political party. And I believe he did that against North Dakota's interests," said Heitkamp.

Berg blamed Heitkamp for endorsing Senate Majority leader Harry Reid -- who he says has blocked a lot of progress himself. And he went after his Democratic opponent's stance on taxes."

"It couldn't be plainer, she's for higher taxes. And our corporate tax rates are already at thirty-five percent, the highest in the world," Berg said.

Berg and Heitkamp both declared they were the candidate most likely to reach bipartisan consensus with fellow lawmakers if elected to the U-S Senate.
