Force Defeat Musketeers 6-3 At Home

Posted: Updated:

The Fargo Force continued their undefeated record at home beating the Sioux City Musketeers on a score of 6-3 tonight in front of a crowd of 3,507 at Scheels Arena.

Sioux City wasted no time in getting the scoring started with an unassisted goal at 1:23 in the first period by forward Tanner Pond. Fargo evened it up three minutes later with a goal by forward Dominic Toninato, his third in two games. The Force then quickly took the lead on a power play goal by Gabe Guertler with an assist by Chris Dienes and Michael Booth. The Musketeers came back with a goal by Jake Guentzel just over half way through the first period. The Force's Neal Goff grabbed his first goal of the season with an assist by Brendan Harms to give Fargo a 3-2 advantage going into the second period.

"Sioux City is a good hockey team, they are strong on the puck," said Head Coach John Marks of tonight's opponent.  "We're scoring some nice goals but the team is playing a little too loose and giving a little too much room."

Just under halfway into the second, Sioux City's Cam Brown scored on a power play with an assist by Blake Heinrich and Dan Molenaar. The second period remained tied until forward Michael Booth notched a goal on a breakaway, for his third goal in two games and his second game winner in a row, to give the Force a 4-3 lead with three minutes remaining in the second period.

Less than a minute into the third period, the Force extended their lead 5-3 with a goal by Jordan Nelson, his first of the season. With seconds remaining in the game, Goff scored an empty net goal securing the  third win at home to keep them undefeated at Scheels Arena.

"So far it's been a pretty good weekend in the win column," Marks said.

The Fargo Force are currently tied for the lead in the Western Conference and look to improve their record as they hit the road to play the Sioux Falls Stampede tomorrow night. The team returns home to face the Youngstown Phantoms on Oct.18 for Student Night at 7:05pm at Scheels Arena. Tickets are just $5 for high school and college students who present their student ID at the Scheels Arena Box office.
