Update

More than 3,000 people have already signed up for a Costco membership, and the doors are still one hour from opening. The warehouse opens in West Fargo on Tuesday, October 23, at 8 a.m.

The 152,000-square-foot warehouse is located at 750 23rd Ave. E., at the southwest corner of Interstate 94 and Veterans Boulevard. This is Costco's first location in the Dakotas.

"We are thrilled to be bringing Costco's low warehouse prices to the residents of West Fargo," said Warehouse Manager Angela Bauer. "They have been asking us to open here for a long time, and we already have made an impact on the local job market. We look forward to contributing to the community in many ways."

In the Costco tradition, the West Fargo warehouse helps businesses save money on supplies and on items for resale, and provides a wide range of products and services for personal use as well.

This new Costco location will feature a variety of departments:

  • Gas Station
  • Fresh Bakery, meat, produce and deli with Rotisserie chicken
  • Optical Department with Independent Doctor of Optometry
  • 1-Hour Photo
  • Tire Center
  • Hearing Aid Center
  • Food Court
  • Fine Wine & Liquor.

Members also can save on Costco Services such as Travel and Auto Buying.

This first Costco warehouse in North Dakota will be the 440th in the U.S. and Puerto Rico, and 610th worldwide. Costco has 66 million cardholders throughout the U.S., Canada, Mexico, England, Scotland, South Korea, Taiwan, Australia and Japan.

Original Story

There were so many people, they had to call in police to direct traffic Monday night. The parking lot was packed outside Costco, and they won't be open until Tuesday.

Costco in West Fargo officially opens Tuesday morning at 8 AM. On Monday, people got a chance to check it out, a preview of sorts and sign up for memberships

Sifa Basimwa of Fargo says, "Oh my God! It was so crazy! I couldn't believe!"

Like many in the Red River Valley, Sifa Basimwa has been looking forward to the day she could walk through the Costco doors and start shopping. And tonight, thousands joined her.

"Been waiting for so long," says Basimwa.

Ginny Kelsh and Bobbi McGarvey of Fargo checked out Costco for the first time and say, "Wow! Wow! Wow! It's great!"

Shoppers packed the warehouse to get a first glimpse at the first store in North Dakota to offer groceries, toys and designer purses, right alongside alcohol.

Basimwa says, "Too much for me, I'm kind of speechless."

Costco Assistant General Manager, Kyle Arneson, says, "I just think for a warehouse, it's just a warm feeling that all our employees bring."

And it is a warm atmosphere, full samples keeping people happy.

Kelsh and McGarvey say, "Eat, grazed, eat!"

"Organic smoothie, fresh fruit, ice cream! Ohhhhh, so crazy!" says Basimwa.

If you're planning to go Tuesday, get ready for another packed store and parking lot. They're expecting about 700 people to sign up. A membership will run you $55.
