ValleyCon Weekend

Posted: Updated:

It's the biggest sci-fi convention in the region: ValleyCon! Almost a thousand people from across the Midwest descended on the Valley for the giant pop-culture celebration this weekend. The 38th annual event is a convergence of sci-fi, fantasy, horror and other genres.

At ValleyCon, some of the most unique items in the world are on display, including costumes.

Sarah Hopewell says, "Costume play, which refers to people who walk around in character."

While you're surrounded by all of these characters, thanks to Terry, you can become one! Or you can create any fantasy scene you want!

Illustrator, Terry Brown, says, "The big pyramid guy with the crazy, it's horrific, him fighting a my little pony. It was pretty weird."

It's a place where anything goes... You can find unique trinkets, a DVD where a Pink Floyd album pairs up with the wizard of oz, all the comics you could ask for and much more!

"You can find stuff here that you just don't find anywhere else," says Hopewell.

You can find all sorts of things, including everything you would need for a zombie apocalypse.

Hopewell says, "It's kind of an unspoken thing that everyone ought to have a zombie plan, just incase it does."

And yes, event goers say it's nerdy... But that's the fun.

"Can kind of get together and geek out about all the things we love," says Hopewell.

Events run all day tomorrow (Saturday) and Sunday at the Hjemkomst Center in Moorhead.
