FARGO MINI MARATHON RAISES FUNDS FOR FAMILY

Posted: Updated:

A Fergus Falls couple was anxiously awaiting the arrival of their little boy back in June, but then something went horribly wrong. The soon-to-be mom, Tami Pederson, died from a massive brain aneurysm. The little boy survived though and their community has rallied in support ever since, in an attempt to try to help the father with the mounting bills. Valley News Live shows how another act of kindness, is helping the family out.

At the Scheels Arena organizers are getting ready for Saturday's Fargo Mini Marathon. It's going to draw quite the crowd, a crowd that will collectively take part in something much bigger than a race.

"I called Mark Knutson who's the race director and a friend. I called him and said I'm thinking about doing this as a fundraiser and I'd like to know what your thoughts are." Says Kathleen Wrigley, a family friend of the Pedersons. She wanted to find a way to help pay for the ever growing medical expenses baby boy Jace Jo, and his family are facing.

Wrigley says when his mother, Tami Pederson, had the aneurysm. The baby was fighting for his life. "His brain went without oxygen for the time that his mom was suffering her medical emergency. So he has suffered some brain damage."

Doctors performed a c-section and managed to save Jace. But he will need special care, care that can be very expensive. Family and friends have had a few fundraiser's already, but tomorrow's will be more broad. One dollar from the race fee from everyone running, will go to the Pedersons.

Which Wrigley says will add up pretty quick, "so that's 2,500 dollars right off the bat to help this family raise money for Jace Pederson and the specialized child care that he will need every single day."

At just four months old, Jace has a long road ahead, and strangers are helping pave that road. "We can't turn the clock back, we can't erase what has happened. But what we can do is help Trent raise this child, we can help with the expenses." Says Wrigley.

On the Fargo Mini Marathon website there is a link to contribute to the Pederson family. Tomorrow, runners are encouraged to wear blue, to show support for Jace and his mother Tami.
