Republican U.S. House candidate Kevin Cramer is defending his support for eliminating a wind energy tax break.

Cramer and Democrat Pam Gulleson squared off Tuesday in a debate broadcast live from Fargo's KFGO Radio.

They clashed on wind energy subsidies, federal tax rates and the taxpayer bailout of General Motors.

Gulleson says she supported the bailout, while Cramer says an "orderly bankruptcy" of the company would have been better.

Cramer wants to dump a federal tax credit that helps the wind energy industry. North Dakota is a leading producer of wind power. But Cramer says it's wrong to continue the subsidy because of the nation's $16 trillion debt.

Gulleson says the wind industry means hundreds of North Dakota jobs, and says renewable energy development should be encouraged.
