The Untold Ministries Story

Posted: Updated:

Most of us have heard the news of non-profits getting hit hard during the recession -- But Fargo-based Unseen Ministries is the exception; with the tools that they bring to the table, they're able to turn one dollar into seven for organizations they assist across the world, and now, thanks to one area business, they've been able to continue growing with a little bit of help.

At Unseen Ministries in downtown Fargo, their goal is simply stated, but far from simple. Than Baardson is the executive director at Unseen Ministries and says that goal is "working with groups around the world that are fighting human trafficking, hunger, poverty, and those that are supporting orphans."

In the past two years, Than Baardson has traveled around the globe with his team including visits to India, Burma, Thailand, Cambodia, and beyond. Why do it? Than says, "the only reason we're doing it is because we're seeing kids that would have no other hope, no other option."

They go, shoot video, snap photos, hear stories, and then, "with the right story telling tools, photo, video, graphic design, things like that we at Unseen Ministries can offer," Than says, "we're seeing people expand their ministries and expand their missions."

But they don't charge anything, and without the support of donations, their work couldn't be done -- And that's why it's so inspiring that Unglued, a modern handmade gifts and crafts shop in Fargo, is giving 40% of their sales Tuesday to Unseen Ministries.

Ashley Morken, owner of Unglued, says she "wanted to find a way to be contributing to our community and people who are doing amazing things and giving up a lot to make a non-profit happen." Unglued actually reached out to Unseen Ministries, which Than says has never happened before -- and which goes to show this little non-profit is getting noticed.

"It's blown our minds at what they've been able to accomplish already and successfully do it super well," Ashley says. "In order for us to have a sustainable business, we need to give back. It's just kind of ingrained in us that we'll give back in what ever way we can to the community and such great missions but it would be really cool if it does set an example for other businesses."

Tomorrow, October 16th, 40% of your purchase at Unglued will go to Unseen Ministries.
Ashley says they're planning to pick a day and a new local non-profit to do this for every other month.

Unglued's address:

408 Broadway, Fargo
