Study says ND lacks in aid for child care expenses

Posted: Updated:

A new report says North Dakota should increase state support for families who are trying to pay child care expenses.

The National Women's Law Center report says North Dakota's economy is strong enough that the state can afford a boost in assistance for child care.

In North Dakota a family of 3 can make up to $30,500 and qualify for state child care assistance. The report says that income threshold should be raised.

The report says families who do get aid are required to contribute a big share of their own income for child care. It says the family's share of the cost should be lowered.

According to the report, North Dakota families with an infant in day care pay an average of $8,000 a year for child care.
