The North Dakota State women's cross country team will return to action this Saturday, running at the UND Ron Pynn Invitational in Grand Forks. The women's 5k race will start at 1:45 p.m., with the men's 8k to follow at 2:30 p.m.
Schools competing at the Ron Pynn Invitational will include Minot State, University of Mary, University of Manitoba, North Dakota and North Dakota State.
North Dakota State is ranked No. 12 in the Midwest region by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
The Bison claimed an impressive seventh-place finish out of 34 teams at the Stanford Invitational on Sept. 29, finishing ahead of four ranked teams in the West Region in San Francisco (5th), UC Davis (6th), California (8th) and Cal Poly (13th).
Following the Stanford Invitational, NDSU redshirt freshman Brecca Wahlund was named The Summit League women's cross country Athlete of the Week for the second time this season. Wahlund has now run three races in her college career and been the top Bison finisher at each. She owns the fastest 6k time and the third-fastest 5k time among all Summit League athletes this season.
Heidi Peterson, Maddie McClellan and Abbi Aspengren are also among the league's Top 10 on the 5k performance list this season. On the 6k list, the Bison own six of the 10 fastest times in the conference this year.
The Ron Pynn Invitational will serve as NDSU's final tune-up for the Summit League Championships, which will be held on Oct. 27 in Rochester, Mich.
