Lisbon Horses Seized after Allegations of Abuse

Posted: Updated:

Eleven horses are recuperating with volunteers in Bismarck after being seized by the Ransom County Sheriff after their owner allegedly failed to provide them with food or water for some time. The Sheriff says the animals are being treated for lack of food and water, as well as underlying medical problems.

Some animals still remain on the property owned by Robert Dick.

The Sheriff says they're the ones who weren't in any immediate danger.

Dick is now facing a court motion that says he's not capable of providing for them.

"Saturday and Sunday, there was no water or food," says Dick's neighbor Traci Ose. "They were out there pawing at the tanks because they were empty."

The sheriff says the food and water that were present in the remaining horses' enclosure
Wednesday afternoon were the work of Dick.

Neighbors say they would like to see all the animals seized. They say they don't believe Dick will continue caring for the animals once all the attention has died down, and that the horses are unlikely to survive the winter.
