Karlstad, MN Wildfire Ruled Arson

  A fast moving wild fire in Karlstad last week has been ruled arson.

  The fire burned 44-hundred acres, destroying 30 structures, including 11 homes in and around Karlstad.

  Just the cost of fighting the fire is now estimated at 1-point-eight-million dollars and investigators say it was arson.

Jean Bergerson, DNR Investigator: "Certain enough they're willing to offer a reward to see if that leads to information that might further the case one direction or another."

  Kittson County Sheriff, Ken Hultgren tells Valley News Live they found the fire's point or origin and determined that it had been intentionally started.

  Investigators are now asking for your help. Anyone who may have spotted suspicious individuals or activity is asked to call law enforcement.

Jean Bergerson: "The public needs to be aware that a lot of people suffered greatly. It cost a great expense both to the Community in terms of now just property loss, but stress and financial."

  The DNR is offering a six-thousand dollar reward for information that leads to an arrest in this case.
