A horse owner in southeast North Dakota is upsetting many horse and animal lovers.
Some are saying he is neglecting his horses by not giving them food or water. At times, neighbors say, he is abusing them.
Traci Ose says, "He's crammed them in a trailer. He broke one's leg. One had punctured lung. He had a pregnant mare he gave the wrong medicine to, and it died. He knocked a power line down and electrocuted one."
She also says the horses are eating their own waste, and there are red worms in the waste.
The hardest part for Ose is to see how these animals continue to deteriorate. "You wouldn't believe how nice they looked when he got them and the difference then to now," says Ose.
While we were out shooting this story, the owner confronted us and said, "My horses are getting treated really good. The hot weather was tough on them." He then told us to turn the camera off and leave.
Plenty of people are willing to step in to help the horses and provide them with a better home, but the owner is not willing to give them up.
Neighbors have reached out to the Ransom County Sheriff's Office, the State Veterinarian and other organizations. But so far, they say no help has come.
"I wish he would just give them up and let me find homes for them. I've even had someone offer to take that really sick one," says Ose.
Neighbors hope by getting the word out, the horses will get the treatment they deserve.
The Ransom County Sheriff's Office was not able to be reached to talk about the alleged neglect. We have more information once we talk to them.
