UND Police Search for Sexual Predator

Posted: Updated:

Police are looking for a sexual predator in the northern valley and they could use your help.

A female student at U.N.D. in Grand Forks was sexually assaulted this week and wasn't able to provide a description of the suspect.

UND Police say it happened at 8:30 Wednesday night, between Gillette and O'Kelly Hall on UND's campus. The victim told police she was walking back to her dorm, when the suspect approached her from behind, threw her on the ground and sexually assaulted her.

Police say the victim did not get a description of the suspect. So, they're asking anyone who might have any information about the assault to contact them.

In the meantime, police say students should take some simple precautions.

Jeff Burgess, UND Police: "I have some suggestions… that would obviously be to travel with another person or in a group."

Burgess also says students should take not of where emergency call stations are located on campus.

Reporter: "So, you heard about the sexual assault?"

Samantha Pfingsten, UND Student:Yeah, we got the email yesterday. So, I heard about it."

Reporter: "Has it prompted you to change your habits… walking alone at night?"

Pfingsten: "It certainly has, especially since I work here late at night, I take more precautions."

Reporter: "Has it prompted you to change your habits?"

Samantha Branger, UND Student: "I've always walked with a buddy. Never by myself."

Laurie Freid, UND Student: "I work pretty late and my boyfriend kinda  waits for me and now he'll probably won't miss a night cause that's kind of scary."

UND Police also offer a 24-hour escort service for any student, who may feel uncomfortable walking across campus at night.

If you have any information regarding this case, you're asked to contact UND Police at: 701-777-3491

UND's 24-hour escort service for students is available at: 701-777-3391.
