Northern Valley Battens Down for Snow

Posted: Updated:

City crews in Grand Forks hit the road early Thursday.

That's after spending Wednesday taking stock of their equipment and forming a battle plan to keep roads traffic-ready.

The city Street Superintendent says they had a number of snowplow trucks set to hit the street around midnight, and were set to call in extra crew members if snow accumulation requires it.

He says the snow is so early, some of the big pieces are still out in the hands of contractors rather than in the city shop.

This early in the season, city crews are still working street sweeping and leaf removal.

He says chances are, what they have on hand will be enough to get through the storm.

"If we have to work around the clock, that's what we'll do, and let Mother Nature take care of the rest," says Mark Aubol.

City crews will tackle Grand Forks's main arterial roads, then move on to the secondary ones when those are cleared.
