ND board awards $4M in emergency grants

Posted: Updated:

A state board has approved $4 million in grants to support emergency services in western North Dakota's oil country.

A number of grants went to buy equipment for police and fire departments.

The city of New Town got money for a new fire truck. Stanley received a grant to buy gear for two new police officers in town. Watford City got $200,000 for a new ambulance building.

The grants are part of a $135 million program to help local communities deal with the effects of rapid energy development in western North Dakota.

They're administered by the state Land Board, which is headed by Gov. Jack Dalrymple.
