Stage 4 Cancer Patient Gets New Home

Posted: Updated:

And one family is feeling the blessings. Generous people in Fergus Falls are pulling together to give a very deserving family a gift of a new home.

Last January,  Isaiah Lawson was diagnosed with stage four neuroblastoma cancer. To help his grim diagnosis, he needs clean air to breath, something his older house didn't have. People in Fergus Falls saw the need, And did something about it: donating time, money and love.

Isaiah's mom, Christine Lawson, says, "This is the first time he's been able to play."

It's a special day for the Lawson family, but the past seven months have been difficult.

Christine says, "We thought he had a belly ache, he had stomach cramps, we thought it was the flu."

But it wasn't. Christine Lawson says, without warning, her son Isaiah was diagnosed with neuroblastoma cancer and given a one in three chance to live.

"Our world collapsed," says Christine.

The community has pulled together to build the family a home that has clean air for Isaiah. The reason: air in older buildings can make him sick. And tonight their new house was blessed.

Christine Lawson: It's amazing, actually, all the support.

And everyone who came to the dedication was asked to grab a marker and start writing.

One of the notes says, "Every good and perfect gift comes from above."

Another says, "Faith is being sure of what you hope for and certain of what you can't see."

They're messages of inspiration.

"This is the day the lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it," is what another note says.

And that faith is the foundation of their new home.

"Even thought they are going to be covered by hardwood flooring. Isaiah is standing on the word of God and surrounded by the word of God every single day," says Christine.

So far, the community has raised over $50,000 for the Lawson's home. Another way people can donate, by buying and dedicating yellow flowers or trees that turn yellow in the fall to symbolize the color for childhood cancer awareness.

Their new should be ready in time for them to move in and celebrate Christmas.

Another bit of good news. When Isaiah was diagnosed, his odds were one in three. After treatment they've greatly improved.
