Force Win Opener In Overtime 3-2

Posted: Updated:

The Fargo Force took the season opener with a 3-2 overtime win versus the Sioux City Musketeers in front of a rowdy crowd of 3,508 at Scheels Arena tonight.

The Force jumped out to a quick lead with a goal just over three minutes into the game. Forward Dominic Toninato netted the opening goal with an assist by Brendan Harms. However, the lead didn't last long as the Musketeers' Jordan Boucher-Gould connected for a goal 6:42 into the first period.

Both teams got off their share of shots, but Sioux City grabbed the lone goal of the second period with just 5:01 left to play. While on power play, Conor McGlynn snuck one past Force goalie Cam Johnson to give the Musketeers the lead. Boucher-Gould and David Goodwin assisted McGlynn on the play.

The final period was a back and forth battle between the two teams but mounted little results. With 5:33 left in regulation, the Fargo Force made a move to tie the game with a goal on power play by Taylor Fleming. Assisting Fleming on the goal was Stanislav Dzakhov.

"Cam Johnson played very well," said Coach John Marks about the Force goalie keeping them in the game. "He made four or five huge saves."

After neither team was able to grab the winning goal in regulation, the game went into overtime. Less than a minute into the five-minute overtime period, Force goalie Cam Johnson made a great save to keep the game knotted up. With less then a minute left Dzakhov fired one past Sioux City goalie Kyle Hayton to give the Force the win.

"The overtime goal was a great shot by Stan. He has a tremendous shot, and I don't think the goalie saw it," said Marks.

Coach Marks went on to say, "We got a lot of work to do, but a win is a win and winning beats losing."

Three Stars of the Game:

1 – #17 Stanislav Dzakhov

2 – #20 Taylor Fleming

3 – #29 Cam Johnson
