ND Chancellor Could Get More Power

Posted: Updated:

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - North Dakota's Board of Higher Education will be considering policy changes that would give more authority to the new university system chancellor. The board is meeting in Bismarck on Wednesday, and board members are scheduled to consider the issue.

Under the changes, new chancellor Ham Shirvani would have the right to fire or suspend a North Dakota college president for misconduct. The current policy says only the board has the power to dismiss a president. The chancellor would be put in charge of any search for a new college president. He would also have authority to fire the chief financial officer or internal auditor at any college in North Dakota's university system.
