Patrol Car Hit Near Fisher

Highway 2 was closed down for some time Tuesday night after a crash, but is now back open to traffic. The crash happened around 8:30 Tuesday night and involved a Minnesota state patrol car and another car. 

According to the crash report, the officer was turning around on Highway 2 to catch up with a speeding car. The patrol car was rear-ended by another vehicle, and that car rolled into the ditch. The driver was Virgil Benoit of Red Lake Falls, Minnesota. He's 69-years-old and was taken to a hospital for non life-threatening injuries.

The patrolman, Dean Smith, 47, of Thief River Falls, Minnesota was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Both vehicles were towed and the Minnesota State Patrol is investigating.
