Grass Fire Causes $15,000 in Damage

Posted: Updated:

We have heard a lot about fire dangers in state parks and fields, and now Fargo Firefighters are urging people in town to be careful around dry grasses, too. Fargo firefighters responded Monday to a report of a fire involving plastic shipping materials outside Amity Technology, a manufacturing business, at 2800 7th Avenue North.

Fire units arrived and found a large amount of plastic and wood materials on fire. Firefighters extinguished the fire before it spread to the building or a nearby house. The fire caused approximately $15,000 dollars in damage.

The fire department  used 17 personnel on 3 engines, 1 ladder, 1 rescue, and a command vehicle. The Fargo Police department also responded and assisted with traffic control.  There were no injuries reported.

The fire started when an employee was welding and ignited a cardboard box. He brought it outside and used an extinguisher to try and put it out. Embers from the box were blown into some nearby dry grass, starting the grass on fire which spread to the materials.

If you have a fire of any type, make sure it is completely extinguished. If you are not sure it's out, call the fire department immediately. Also be especially careful outdoors with any type of fire with the extremely dry conditions.
