"Drano" Gets Adopted

Posted: Updated:

Drano the cat was found in a storm sewer in Jamestown and rescued by animal control, who then put him up for adoption. And now this cat's misfortune of falling in a drain has turned into a gift.

Veterinarian, Dr. Dawn Entzminger, says, "He was too small to get out and eventually he would have starved."

He's an adventurous kitten, and that curiosity almost killed him.

Dr. Dawn says, "Some people eating at a Chinese restaurant heard a kitten meowing in the sewer drain."

Animal control scooped him out of a drain and brought him to a foster parent who works at Dr. Dawn's Pet Stop in Jamestown. From there, he was named Drano and put up for adoption.

Dr. Dawn says, "I always just gravitated towards him."

While his story of survival is a gift in itself, he also became one.

Dawn's husband, Greg Entzminger, says, "This anniversary snuck up on me so for some reason I just stared thinking about him."

"He very secretly went behind the scenes," says Dawn.

With Dawn's birthday in a couple weeks, and their anniversary coming up, her husband Greg had the idea to surprise his wife by adopting Drano.

Dawn says, "Very surprised. I didn't think he would ever get me a pet for a fist. I'm the one who brings home pets!"

"I think it was thumbs up for this one," says Greg.

"I am super happy. I mean we've really bonded," says Dawn.

From falling into the sewer to an prized anniversary present, Drano finally has his forever home.

Usually feral cats are tough to adopt out. Dr. Dawn says she's surprised how mellow Drano is for being one. She says he's probably thankful for being rescued.
