WWII Veteran Gets Honorary Diploma

Posted: Updated:

Veterans sacrifice so much, and sometimes we do not even realize all of what they give up for us.  Seventy years ago a Fargo man was drafted into the army during WWII as a Junior in high school.

He was attending Fargo Central High and did not have the chance to finish and receive his diploma. Saturday that changed as 88-year-old Teddy Wong was presented with an honorary diploma from Fargo North High.

Much of his family made the trip with him from Roseville, Minnesota to watch the dad, husband, and grandfather get the recognition that was a long time coming.

"I didn't have a choice, it bothered me. I went before the draft board tried to get a deferment and they asked me how far are you from graduating. I said a year and a half, and they said forget it," says Wong.

Wong moved from Fargo to the Twin Cities in the mid-50's with his wife Laura. There they opened the House of Wong Restaurant. It is the oldest family owned business in Roseville.

Wong says he is very honored for the recognition and plans on hanging the diploma on his wall where his children can see it.
