Downtown Fargo Cameras Ready to Roll

Posted: Updated:

(AP) - Police-operated surveillance cameras are going online in part of downtown Fargo.

Some people in North Dakota's largest city have raised privacy concerns, but police say crime in the area is on the rise and the department can't afford to put more officers out on patrol.

Lt. Jeff Skuza says businesses in the area asked for the help after a rash of vandalism and thefts. The cameras will record video and feed it to the police station 24 hours a day.

The data will be kept for about 10 days.

The equipment and installation cost about $9,000.
