Four UND hockey players have been suspended, following an apparent alcohol fueled initiation party for freshman, last weekend.
Suspended for one game are:
Senior Captain, Andrew MacWilliam and assistant captains, Corban knight, Danny Kristo and Carter Rowney.
The players are suspended for the season opening game against Alaska-Fairbanks on October 19th. The entire team also faces disciplinary action.
According to the dispatcher log, police were called to Walsh Hall dormitory on UND's campus, just after 10 Saturday night.
The log says the call was in reference to alcohol and someone, who was passed out.
We weren't allowed to see the UND police report so no further details are available from police. However, a student who lives here says, the incident was part of a freshman initiation party.
The student didn't know names, but says he saw several students who were so drunk they could barely walk. He says one student, who was passed out was being drug up the stairs and another one vomited in the hallway.
Assistant States Attorney, David Jones says the case is being reviewed for possible, misdemeanor charges. Jones says they should have a decision within the next couple of days on whether they'll file any charges.
Reporter: "If they're convicted of a misdemeanor is that anything that can get you expelled?"
Peter Johnson, UND Media Relations: "Again, we'd have to go to the Code of Student Life and see how that would play out. We have our own process for students. It's an educational process for students who have violations of various kinds. It's not a strict policy in terms of what happens in the legal realm and what happens at UND."
Athletic Director, Brian Faison and Hockey Coach, Dave Hakstol issued written statements.
Faison says in part: "The behavior in this situation was unacceptable. Measures taken by the athletic department do not preclude possible, additional measures… by the University or local authorities…."
Coach Hakstol says in part: Recent actions by our team are not a good representation of our place as role models within our Community. …our players, and in particular our leaders must be accountable for their actions.
In addition to the suspensions, Athletic Director, Brian Faison also announced several disciplinary measures for the entire team including:
1) Any further violations by a team member could result in a reduction scholarship, suspension or being expelled from the program.
2) A mandatory team community service program.
3) Weekly team alcohol education programming.
Last year, hockey player Danny Kristo also missed game time after suffering frost bite, while walking on campus.
UND officials never released details on how that incident happened.
