Viewer Helps Catch Felon

Posted: Updated:

A wanted felon is back behind bars thanks to a Valley News Live viewer.

Kevin Martin Junior was being held in the Roseau County Jail on a felony, vehicle theft charge, when he slipped away from an outside work detail on Tuesday. But, after 3 days on the run from the law, Kevin Martin Junior was apparently thirsty. So, he stopped at the Diamonds Bar in Grygla, Minnesota Thursday night. Big mistake.

A woman, who doesn't want her identity revealed for fear of retaliation was celebrating her 21st birthday at the bar, when she recognized Martin.

Tipster: "We saw his picture… we found it on the Valley News Live web site."

She even managed to snap a picture of Martin with her cell phone, while another friend called police, and another friend kept Martin busy with conversation.

Police nabbed him out in this parking lot, when Martin went outside to smoke.

Tipster: "The said put your hands up and he did. He didn't run or anything."

Reporter: "So, after 3 days on the run he was thirsty, but made a big mistake stopping here?"

Tipster: "Right. I don't know if he thought we don't watch TV because we're such a small town or what….ha. It was crazy… definitely a birthday I'll remember."

And it's a night Kevin Martin Junior will now remember from his jail cell, thanks to some alert viewers.
