One Killed in Twin Cities Hotel Shooting

WOODBURY, Minn. (AP) - Police say one person is dead after a standoff at a hotel in Woodbury. 

Officers were called to the Red Roof Inn about 1:10 a.m. Friday. Responding officers found a disturbance in one of the hotel rooms. Police say while officers were investigating, someone fired a gunshot and three officers returned fire. 

One person was taken to Regions Hospital in St. Paul and later died. That person has not been identified. Authorities haven't said whether the victim was shot. Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension spokeswoman Jill Oliveira says the person who died was not an officer. 

The three officers who fired their weapons will be placed on administrative leave. 

Woodbury police say the Washington County SWAT Team took a suspect into custody about 5 a.m. One SWAT officer was treated for a minor injury during the incident. The BCA is interviewing the officers on scene and other individuals who were in the motel room.

Authorities evacuated the hotel as they negotiated with the gunman. Authorities say nine people in a hotel room were being held against their will. The shooting victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at Regions Hospital. 

The gunman was taken into custody about 5:30 a.m. 

The relationship between the gunman and the person who was shot is under investigation.

WOODBURY, Minn. (WCCO) – One person was killed and a man was taken into custody following a hostage situation in the eastern Twin Cities metro area early Friday morning.

Several law enforcement agencies and the Washington County SWAT Team were called to the Red Roof Inn near Interstate 494 on the 1800 block of  Wooddale Drive after 1:30 a.m.

Authorities said there had been hostages taken, possibly up to five.

As officers were investigating, a shot was fired. Authorities said three officers returned gunfire.

After 5 a.m., authorities said the SWAT standoff had been resolved, but one person had been transported to Regions Hospital where they were later pronounced dead.

One male has been taken into custody, according to authorities.

No officers were injured in the shooting incident, but one SWAT team member was treated for a minor injury sustained during the tactical operation.

All three officers who fired back will be placed on paid administrative leave, which is standard procedure for officer-involved shootings.
