Group Takes a Shot at Republicans

Posted: Updated:

The  "Alliance for a Better Minnesota" is lobbying in the northwestern corner of the State this week to get Republican legislators out of office.

The group is criticizing changes to the Homestead Tax Credit law, which gives homeowners a tax break. It says changes to the law by the republican majority, increased taxes for 95-percent of Minnesotans.

The State Department of Revenue and republicans challenge that, saying their changes to the tax credit law actually lowered taxes.

Rep. Deb Kiel, (R) Crookston: "When we changed it, 32-percent of the homeowners were able to see a decrease. When I go to the doors I hear people say they're either flat or decreased."

The Alliance for a Better Minnesota group also made stops in Thief River Falls and Bemidji.
