Jamestown Murder Trial Headed to Jury

Posted: Updated:

JAMESTOWN, N.D. (AP) - Both sides have rested their case in the trial of a North Dakota man charged with murdering a Somali immigrant.

Thirty-five-year-old Leron Howard is charged with murder and criminal conspiracy in the death of 18-year-old Abdi Ali Ahmed, whose body was found in a ditch near Spiritwood, last April.

NewsDakota reports that prosecutors and defense lawyers presented closing arguments Tuesday. The jury will begin deliberations Wednesday morning.

Howard testified Tuesday that he hit Ahmed twice but said it was Janelle Cave who later stabbed the victim.

Cave was earlier convicted of manslaughter and criminal conspiracy and is serving an 11-year prison sentence.

A medical examiner earlier testified that Ahmed likely died because of the head injury, but that the stab wounds accelerated the death.
