Gas Station Robbed in Mapleton

UPDATE 9:03 PM by Emily Welker

Folks in Mapleton, ND are expressing outrage after the armed robbery of their town's gas station, and the subsequent arrest of a seventeen-year-old boy in connection with the holdup.

The Cass County Sheriff says a store clerk called in to report he'd been held up by a male driving a silver four-door vehicle around six p.m. Monday.
A deputy spotted a car fitting that description on I-94 near Sheyenne, and called for backup.
Deputies pulled the car over shortly thereafter in the southbound lane and arrested the boy inside.
They won't say what evidence they found inside, nor why they say it links him to the crime. They also won't say what kind of weapon was used in the robbery.
Mapleton neighbors say they don't recall the last violent crime they've had there.

"I just don't understand why things like this happen. I stop in here every day," said LeRoy Bangert, who was just on his way into Gordy's when he saw the yellow police tape showing it was a crime scene. Bangert says it "isn't something people in Mapleton are going to take too lightly."

The boy is a minor, so police haven't released his name. They say he is from the Fargo area.

Police have arrested the suspect behind the armed robbery of a Mapleton, ND gas station. Gordy's Inc. Travel Plaza was held up just after 6:00 pm Monday night. Authorities caught the 17-year-old male suspect less than an hour later on Interstate 29 south of Fargo.
