Posted: Updated:

The director of such Hollywood blockbusters as "Top Gun" and "Beverly Hills Cop II" has died after jumping from a bridge in Los Angeles County.

Authorities say Tony Scott's body was recovered several hours after he had jumped Sunday afternoon.

The Los Angeles Times reports that a suicide note was found in Scott's office. He also directed films like "Crimson Tide," and "The Taking of Pelham 123."

The 68-year-old was the younger brother of Ridley Scott, whose Roman epic "Gladiator" won best-picture at the Academy Awards for 2000.
